Within the present administrative boards the Oktyabrsky District was founded in 1937 on the basis of decision of the Presidium of Central Election Commission "On formation of new districts in the Omsk Region". At that time it was called Mikoyanovsky with the center in the village of Kondinskoe and was in the structure of the Omsk Region. 20 years later the district and center were renamed.

Administrative center of the district: urban settlement of Oktyabrskoye. 4 urban settlement Andra, Oktyabrskoye, Priobje, Talinka, 7 rural settlement Kamennoe, Karymkary, Maly Atlym, Peregrebnoe, Sergino, Unyugan, Sherkaly are within the structure of the settlement.

District is located within the forest zone of Western-Siberian plain. Winter lasts approximately 200 days per year, short summer period is usually hot.

Conifers trees as follows are the basis of the taiga: pine, fir, cider, rarely birch and aspen. A large family of musteline live in taiga: sable, ermine, caress, true otter, marten. Brown bear, fox, hare are often met.

Forests and swamps are rich in fruit kinds of vegetation: cranberry, cowberry, bilberry, blueberry, currant, cloudberry, raspberry, dog-rose, bird cherry, ashberry.

The Ob river with its floodplain is a place of game-fish living: pike, syrok, chebak, perch.

Industry of the district is represented by traditional sectors as follows: logging, wood processing, fishing and fish processing, sectors the history of which is rather short o the territory of the Oktyabrsky District - bowels prospecting and oil extracting.
