On September 27 the World
Tourist Day is celebrated. Ugra tourist business is developing
with the positive tendency to attract guests to the ethnographic
region of Russia.
While the first quarter of 2009
66 ths. people visited the Autonomous Okrug. The total number of
tourists in summer time in the Autonomous Okrug is over 103 ths.
people, mainly tourists from the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug,
Yekaterinburg, Tyumen, Tobolsk, Novosibirsk.
Analyzing the age categories of
tourists the increased number of students and youth can be noted
though the key travelers to Ugra are children of the school age.
Children’s groups are sent to summer camps and to one-two days’ tours.
Foreign tourists and tourists
from the Russian regions are attracted by ethnographic tourism. Life
and culture of aboriginals is an exotic, an opportunity to learn
traditions of Northern indigenous peoples. Special tours are organized
in Ugra which are in great demand. Safari - hunting for brown bears,
elks, sables, woodcocks, duck, red and black foxes and also fishing in
the Siberian rivers. Tourists also visit settlements of indigenous
peoples. They are interested in life and culture of aboriginals - an
exotic and opportunity to learn Northern peoples’ traditions. Many
people of Ugra today come to have a rest in Khanty-Mansiysk - a
picturesque town, located on seven hills and surrounded by cedar
forests.
The development of tourism is
one of the priority directions of the Autonomous Okrug economy. Ugra
is winning the worthy positions on the domestic tourist market. "A
high level of the service, well-developed network of modern
communications, new tourist facilities, intensive improvement of hotel
and restaurant services, convenient transport network promote to the
formation of Ugra image as the region which is favorable for tourism
and rest", - said the head of the region Alexander Filipenko in his
congratulations. He wished specialists, employed in this sphere,
professional success, creative energy in their desire to make the
Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug-Ugra one of the most popular world
tourist centers.

Governor of Ugra Alexander
Filipenko had a meeting with Chairman of the Committee for Northern
Affairs of the Council of Federation, RF Federal Assembly Gennadi
Oleynik. He is also the Northern Forum Regional Coordinator.
Senator from the Khanty-Mansiysk
Autonomous Okrug informed the head of the region about the
participation in the IX Northern Forum General Assembly to be held in
Whitehorse (Yukon, Canada). Regional coordinators and representatives
of 9 member-regions from 6 countries of the world participated in the
meeting: Canada, China, Finland, Republic of Korea, Russia, Japan.
Russia was represented by the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug-Ugra,
Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Sakha Republic (Yakutia).
Gennadi Oleynik on behalf of
Ugra Governor made a report "Results of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous
Okrug-Ugra chairmanship in the Northern Forum International
Association". Alexander Filipenko had been the Chair of the Northern
Forum for two terms. Senator also made a report at the plenary session
"Sustainable development of settlements". At the meeting there were
also made reports about the projects, implemented under three key
programs of the Northern Forum: Environment, Sustainable Development,
Society and Culture. Oh behalf of Ugra Gennadi Oleynik expressed the
readiness to continue the participation in 9 projects of the
Association.
As a result of voting the
Northern Forum co-chairs there have been elected two Canadian
provinces: Yukon (Premier - Dennis Fenti) and Nunavut (Premier - Eva
Aariak). Vice-chairs are Gangwon (Republic of Korea), Heilongiang
(China), Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug-Ugra (from the western part
of Russia) and Sakha Republic (Yakutia) (from the eastern part of
Russia).
Gennadi Oleynik conveyed to
Governor of Ugra from the Northern Forum members gratitude for
successful chairmanship while two terms. Alexander Filipenko
emphasized the importance of the Autonomous Okrug participation in the
activities of this non-governmental international organization, in the
implementation of projects and also in the future events of the
Northern Forum.
