The Okrug Governor’s press-service informs:

Governor of Ugra Alexander Filipenko signed the decree about the International conference, devoted to the implementation of the Russian-Canadian northern regions development program (NORDEP) to be held on May 19-20 in Khanty-Mansiysk. Such a proposal was submitted by the Association of Canadian colleges and universities - participants of the program.

In August of 2006 Ugra made a decision to participate in the NORDEP and proposed 7 projects and two of them became  the winners - "Study of the Canadian experience in regional economy development as a northern region" and "Creation of Northern Indigenous peoples’ business school at the Ugra State University", prepared by Department of Economic Policy and Indigenous Peoples Department jointly with the Ugra State University. On November 01 Alexander Filipenko adopted the document about the NORDEP implementation.

In September of 2007 Khanty-Mansiysk was visited by the delegation of the Saint Maria University and in May of 2008 in the frames of the project "Creation of Northern Indigenous peoples’ business school at the Ugra State University" employees of the Ugra State University and Northern Indigenous Peoples Department of Ugra made a trip to Halifax (Canada). Then it was signed the agreement on cooperation between the Ugra State University and Saint Maria University. President of this university will attend Khanty-Mansiysk to participate in the III U-Arctic Rectors’ Forum to be held in June.

Another detail: Besides the Khanty-Mansiysk Okrug Yamal and Khabarovsk Krai participate in the NORDEP.  Gennadi Oleynik, Chair of the Committee for Northern Affairs and Indigenous Peoples, Council of Federation who represents Ugra at the Senate, is in charge of Russia;s participation in the NORDEP.

Last February he chaired the meeting where reports by partners were made.

So, the conference  to be held in  May in Khanty-Mansiysk is a new stage of international and interregional cooperation. Representatives of federal authorities of Russia and Canada, Canadian Embassy in Russia, Canadian International Development Agency, Association of Canadian colleges and universities, representatives of regional authorities and non-governmental organizations of Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Newfoundland, Ontario, Khanty-Mansiysk and Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrugs, Khabarovsk Krai will participate in the NORDEP Conference.

On May 13 the regional contest "Teacher-2009" will start in Khanty-Mansiysk.

Based on the information of the Education and Science Department of Ugra, the event contributes to increase of prestige and status of a teacher in the society, support to talented teachers, search for new ideas and  advanced  educational technologies.

This year the contest of professional pedagogical skills is aimed at support of creative initiatives pf teachers, succession of the best traditions, development of spiritual and moral potential of the youth.

In the frames of the competitions 15 teachers, winners of the municipal stages will give lessons, demonstrate the level of their professional skills, methodical training, ability to generalize colleagues’ experience. The Jury members will assess abilities of the participants and choose the winner who will represent Ugra at the All-Russia contest "Teacher of the Year".

Founders of the contest are Education and Science Department of Ugra, trade-union of teachers. The opening and closing ceremonies of the regional contest "Teacher of the Year-2009" will take place at the Center of Arts for Gifted Children of the North and the contest program will be held at gymnasium #1 of Khanty-Mansiysk.

On May 07 at  Moscow secondary school of the Olympic reserve #2 Chair of the Russian Federation Government Vladimir Putin had a meeting with the winners of the IV Winter Games of Russia’s schoolchildren - 2009. Nikita Kovalenko, a member of the Okrug snowboard combined team, was invited to the meeting as representative from the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug. He was the winner of the All-Russia Championships (St.Petersburg), IV Winter Games of Russia’s schoolchildren (St.Petersburg), Winter European Junior Olympic Festival in Poland. Chief Coach of the Autonomous Okrug snowboard combined team Natalia Vasilievna Podorovskaya was also invited for the reception of the RF Government Chair.

Vladimir Putin congratulated children upon the victory and also expressed hope that many of them would become participants of the Einter Olympic Games to be held in Sochi in 2014: "Fefore the Olympic Games not much time is left. Russian sportsmen are traditionally strong in winter sports and have always achieved great results. I do not doubt in your great results", - emphasized Prime Minister.

Vladimir Putin said that success of Russian sportsmen on the international arena contributed to popularization of sport inside the country.

Minister of Sport, tourism and youth policy of the Russian Federation Vitali Mutko also participated in the meeting. The head of the Russian Government agreed with his proposal to pay prizes to champions and prize-winners of the IV Winter Games of Russia’s schoolchildren - 2009 in the frames of the "Priority project of talented youth support (education)".
