The Okrug
Governor’s press-service informs:
Today the
discussion of new avenues of cooperation between Ugra and Canada was
started in Khanty-Mansiysk. The delegation of Alberta Province
arrived at the capital of the Autonomous Okrug with three days’ visit.
The reason of
the guests’ interest is in similarity of two northern provinces -
Mackenzie District and Ugra in climatic conditions, nature resources,
residence of indigenous peoples in remote localities. As the
Autonomous Okrug Mackenzie is a region-donor. 36 % of gas reserves
and 80 % of oil reserves of the North-West Alberta are located in the
subsurface of Alberta. The oil-gas, timber and agricultural industries
prevail in the economy.
Director of
the Department for Environment Protection and Ecological Safety of
the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug Sergei Pikunov said that the
Canadian delegation planned to create the Training and Research
Center. The delegation is interested in the organizational activities
of Shpilman’s Research and Analytical Center of Rational Subsurface
Management and Ugra Research Institute of Information Technologies.
"We used to borrow the Canadian experience and today we could achieve
the best results in assessment, analysis and forecast of ecological
safety. At present the government of Alberta is interested in getting
high-level processed information and reasonable recommendations in
nature resources management, based on innovational researches in the
spheres of current interest. The Center to be created in Canada will
be involved in this activity", - emphasized he after the meeting with
the Canadian delegates.
While this day
the Alberta delegation will have meetings with representatives of the
regional departments of economic policy, science and education.
Tomorrow the potential of the Ugra Research Institute of Information
Technologies will be demonstrated to the guests.
