The Okrug Governor’s press-service informs:

On the site SportBox.ru today the best sportsman of Russia in December of 2008 is being selected – “Golden Pedestal”. The voting list includes stars of the Russian sport who achieved the best results last month – biathletes Svetlana Sleptsova and Albina Akhatova, Danis Zaripov (hockey), Alexander Zubkov (bobsleigh), Stanislav Donets (swimming).

As a result of the Internet voting Svetlana Sleptsova is the leader. At 12.00 she had over 50 % of voters. The final round of voting will begin at 19.40 (Moscow time).

Svetlana Sleptsova was born on July 31, 1986 in Khanty-Mansiysk. She is the three-time World Junior Champion, prize-winner of the Biathlete World Championships, laureate of the Biathlon Award -2008. Svetlana is considered the best  beginner of the year. This season the athlete from Ugra is the leader of the World Cup score total. In last seven races she became the prize-winner every time.

The sportswoman from Khanty-Mansiysk Olga Anisimova became the absolute winner of the IV stage of the Biathlete All-Russia Cup. She won in the competitions of the tournament “Izhevsk rifle”, held in Uvat, individual race and sprint. It let her claim to be a member of the biathlon  combined team of the Russian Federation.

Together with Yana Romanova she will participate in the January stages of the Biathlon World Cup. Today the key members of the combined team are Svetlana Sleptsova from Ugra, Albina Akhatova, Olga Zaitseva, Olga Medvedtseva, Ekaterina Yurieva, Anna Bulygina.
